Position Summary

The Trade Compliance Analyst II is responsible for supporting the timely and compliant importation of goods into and the exportation of goods from the United States and Canada. This position works with customs brokers, manufacturing facilities, sourcing vendors and internal departments to ensure the accuracy of invoices, values and other data elements declared upon entry into the U.S. and Canada.
The Trade Compliance Analyst II is responsible for the company’s Restricted Party Screening and Conflict Minerals programs. Additionally, the Analyst II is responsible for auditing and overseeing AES filings and has responsibility to troubleshoot and resolve process and / or documentation issues and implement long term corrective actions.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide US and Canada Customs broker support and respond to questions and requests pertaining to proper entry of imported goods. Includes document requests, determining FDA requirements, troubleshooting documentation and process errors, and developing corrective action plans. Support internal business partners with import / export questions and requests. Review first sale (factory) invoices to ensure invoices or transaction value worksheets are complete and accurate for Customs filing. Review and monitor documents loaded to the Supplier Portal and act as a point of contact for the portal’s use.
  • Manage the Restricted Party Screening program. Ensure required data feeds are provided to our third-party service provider for screening. Make decisions on potential matches.
  • Work with internal business partners to obtain and review Conflict Minerals questionnaire. Prepare required annual documentation for submission to Berkshire Hathaway.
  • Oversee AES filings to ensure accuracy and timeliness and provide support to Transportation when required. Update classifications / schedule Bs for exported goods and provide requested or required export documentation and support.
  • Monitor and support broker’s Import Security Filing (ISF) portal. Closely monitor the portal to minimize risk of receiving penalties from US Customs. Set up new locations and users and conduct training as needed; work with IT or external sources to troubleshoot issues. Prepare monthly ISF reports.
  • In coordination with Manager, classify imported merchandise for all divisions (Spalding, Vanity Fair Brands, Fruit of the Loom and Russell Athletic). Analyze and research products to determine the proper classification and interpret Customs regulations.
  • Prepare monthly Customs Broker timing report to measure the timeliness of broker’s filing Customs entries of goods arriving at port.
  • Maintain and update monthly vendor scorecards, reflecting late or incorrect ISF fillings. Track and maintain list of invoice and Supplier Portal errors to be included with ISF reports and on monthly scorecards.
  • Prepare and submit Post Summary Corrections, and Protests to U.S. and Canada Customs brokers. Track refunds and additional bills from US Customs and Canada Customs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or similar field, or equivalent work experience
• Firm knowledge and understanding of the United States and Canada Tariff Schedule
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required
• Knowledge of common Free Trade Agreements and their rules of origin preferred.
• Ability to quickly analyze, compare and interpret information and make sound and accurate conclusions
• Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues and constraints
• Process improvement skills

Minimum Job Experience Required

• 2+ years of experience in international trade, inclusive of Customs brokerage and / or Customs compliance functions.
• Experience with classifying a wide variety of goods (i.e., apparel, hard goods).
• Experience dealing with brokers/forwarders/carriers in the customs clearance of goods.
• Working knowledge of the ACE Portal, in particularly AES filing and running ACE reports
