Position Summary

The Category Manager works directly with the Walmart merchant team to provide fact-based category recommendations to optimize Walmart modular space and category growth. This position utilizes JDA space planning software, Retail Link and productivity analyses for modular development. The Category Manager is responsible for providing the Walmart merchant team with detailed weekly POS results, modular performance, and market trend insights on an ongoing basis. Further, this position is responsible for working with the NPD team and the NPD software to report consumer insights, highlighting areas of opportunity for growth and revision.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide Walmart Merchant Team with in-depth POS, modular performance, productivity, and trends to deliver business building category recommendations to optimize growth. This includes, weekly tracking reports tailored to each WM Merchant’s needs, Weekly Category results shared with the vendors (WM scorecard results). Ad hoc Walmart Merchant requests.
  • Utilize JDA space planning software to create Walmart modulars that support the category specific objectives. Utilize Excel to provide performance analysis across multiple floorplans, fixture types / sizes. Work with Sales teams and Walmart Merchants to evaluate modular performance and highlight opportunities.
  • Conduct weekly retailer comp shops, reporting newness, promotions (off-price/off shelf), state of the modulars and highlighting areas requiring focus. Conduct full market competitive shops on a semi-annual basis for the Walmart Merchant team.
  • Utilize NPD market data to create and deliver consumer insights presentations on a quarterly basis; work with the NPD Group on day-to-day requests and/or special projects. Provide ongoing ad hoc support to the Walmart merchants and FOL Sales team.
  • Key Contact for our Walmart instore merchandising team (Devrew). Provide detailed monthly summary of store visits conducted, drawing focus on areas needing additional support. Devise monthly store service requests. Managing the spend vs. budget to maximize our dollar spend, focusing on key selling periods.
  • Cross functional collaboration with the internal Account team as well as US Category Management team to share best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• University degree / College diploma in related field or equivalent work experience.
• Exceptional analytical skills; high attention to detail; confidentiality adherence a must.
• Knowledge and understanding of Walmart Category Management processes.
• Adaptable and customer focused.
• Experience working with databases – Retail Link is a must.
• Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Space Management software.

Minimum Job Experience Required

• 2+ years of Category Management experience
• Quantitative analysis and database experience required; use of consumer data (NPD preferred).
