Position Summary

The Benefits Manager administers the health and wellness benefit programs for US, Puerto Rico and Canada operations, ensuring the business has contemporary programs and practices that support the attraction, engagement, wellness and retention of talent.  This includes the implementation and administration of plans and programs, as well as the selection and supervision of the benefit providers including brokers and consultants.  Additionally, this role oversees administration of the Company’s processes for leaves, and accommodations. 

Specific Responsibilities

US and Canada Benefits:

Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's US and Canada benefits function and performance.

  • Administration the benefit plans for the Company. Oversee and direct third party administrators of benefit programs. Manage Benefits department operations at Corporate, and provide oversight to facilities regarding benefits administration.
  • Ensure compliance with business and legal plan requirements, direct preparation and filing of legally required reports and documents, and conduct internal audit reviews ensuring processes and controls are in place for ongoing compliance.
  • Design and oversee Health and Financial Wellness programs through data-driven benchmarks and goals. 
  • Recommend benefits programs to leadership by studying employee preferences, trends and developments in benefits offered by other organizations.

Leave of Absence Program Management:

  • Oversees the administration of the Company’s leave of absence programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
  • Manages the Company’s STD/LTD and salary continuation programs, providing coaching and consultation to managers and employees on claim matters. 
  • Partners with Benefits Specialist, Managers, HR Business Partners and Legal Counsel on leave of absence cases, accommodation requests, policy interpretation, and return to work management.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Support various HR and Total Rewards initiatives that advance the strategic impact to the Company.  This may include leading projects and teams and collaborating with local and global HR leaders as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Management or other related discipline or equivalent years of professional experience
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred
  • Strong health benefit plan understanding, from design to implementation
  • Solid understanding of compliance and changing regulatory environment.
  • Working knowledge of retirement plans, federal and local laws, compliance, and processes, including ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to multi-task and contribute on multiple projects simultaneously

Minimum Job Experience Required

  • 5+ years of relevant Benefits/HR experience
  • 2+ years of management experience, as well as demonstrated leadership qualities and teamwork capabilities
  • FLMA, Leave of absence experience
  • Demonstrated ability in managing internal compliance programs and policies.
  • Experience working with outside brokers to evaluate plan design performance and strategic options
