This position is responsible for all Product Development functions for Spalding and Dudley brands. Responsibilities include the categories of Inflates, Backboard Systems, Softball Products, accessories, and future line extensions. In alignment with VP, works from Marketing briefs to set the strategic direction for Product Development priorities, product pipeline, project management, and ultimate completion to commercialize all product. Additionally, this role supports international office requests as appropriate and within the existing product priority planning calendars.
Overall management of the PD team which contributes to achieving annual financial performance targets (revenue, operating profit, ROS) through calendar adherence, cost controls, efficient product design, and delivering on Marketing and business strategies. In addition, responsible for leadership in collaborative projects with corporate support teams to achieve business interdependency goals (i.e. Sourcing, Distribution, General Supply Chain). These responsibilities include Q/A processes, factory relationships, communication of Product requirements, and commercialization of product.
Product Management: Aligned with LRP/ABP strategy, provide leadership and direction to product team to develop and manage line assortments, ensuring Spalding offers innovative, differentiated products that meet consumer needs while achieving company profitability objectives. Ensure the product innovation pipeline provides a steady stream of innovation that strengthens our leadership position. |
Revenue: Work closely with the marketing and sales teams to ensure they are informed and equipped to cultivate the business and achieve revenue goals. Support sales team in customer presentations as appropriate and required acting as authority in the category. Plan and execute all sales samples needed in the process. |
Business Analysis and Category Management: Work with Marketing and corporate resources to develop category knowledge and expertise that helps maximize opportunities and strengthen customer partnerships. Ensure PD team understands detailed analysis of the various categories and channels that help respond to competitive actions, ensure business units are aware of relevant consumer / trade trends. |
Business Development: Aligned with Spalding Management, contribute to development of category expansion, sport extension and licensing opportunities to grow overall revenue. |
IP Portfolio: Working through FOTL legal and outside council, ensure portfolio is maintained, protected and current to represent owned IP that can be leveraged for further business growth. |
